Energy
An EAC bill has six lines and none of them is the price per kWh. See what your kilowatt-hour really costs and how many years a home solar system needs to pay for itself.
Calculators
Good to know
- 1Domestic tariff 01 charges energy, network, fuel adjustment, RES levy and a fixed charge, all with 5% VAT until 31 March 2027.
- 2Under net billing exported energy is credited at a lower price than what you buy at, which is why self-consumption matters.
- 3The state grant for home solar reduces the upfront cost and shortens payback by 1 to 2 years.
Frequently asked questions
What does a kilowatt-hour really cost in Cyprus?
More than the energy price you see on the first line of the bill. Domestic tariff 01 charges energy, network, fuel adjustment, an RES levy and a fixed charge, all together with 5% VAT until 31 March 2027. Your real price per kWh only appears when you divide the final amount by the units used.
How long do home solar panels take to pay for themselves?
Mostly on how much energy you use at the time you are generating it. The state grant reduces the upfront cost and shortens payback by 1 to 2 years. Put your real consumption into the calculator rather than an average, because that is what decides the answer.
What is net billing?
Energy you export to the grid is credited against your bill, but at a lower price than the one you pay when buying. That is why it pays to consume as much as you can at the moment you generate, rather than sending the surplus to the grid.
Is there a grant for solar panels?
Yes, there is a state grant for home systems that covers part of the installation cost. Because the amounts and conditions change from scheme to scheme, confirm the current figure before working out your payback.
