How it is calculated
In Cyprus a PV system yields about 1,600 kWh per kWp per year. Under net billing (from 2026) energy you use as it is produced saves you the full electricity price, while energy exported to the grid is credited at a lower price.
Annual saving = self-consumed energy × electricity price + exported energy × export price. Payback = (cost − grant) ÷ annual saving. The 25-year saving accounts for 0.5% yearly degradation.

What self-consumption should I assume?
Without a battery, households away during the day reach 25–35%. With a water heater, daytime air conditioning or a battery, 50–70%.
Is there a grant?
The RES and Energy Saving Fund grant for home solar opens each year with different amounts per kW and a cap. The 2025 scheme has closed and the 2026 one had not been announced by September. Enter 0 unless you have an approved grant, or the amount of your approval.
How much is exported energy worth?
Under net billing EAC credits exported energy at a price set by the regulator CERA that changes over time. The tool's default is indicative; enter the price from your contract or latest bill.
How do I find the electricity price I pay?
Divide the bill total by the kWh on the same bill. In Cyprus that usually works out at 25–32 cents per kWh, well above the tariff's energy charge, because network, fuel, levies and VAT are all in there too. If you would rather not do the division, switch on “Work out my price from my bill instead” and enter the two figures from your bill.
