How it is calculated

  1. Taxable income = total income minus deductible contributions (social insurance, GESY, provident fund, life insurance), capped at one fifth of income.

  2. 2026 bands: 0% to €22,000, 20% from €22,001 to €32,000, 25% to €42,000, 30% to €72,000, 35% above €72,000. 2025 bands: 0% to €19,500, 20% to €28,000, 25% to €36,300, 30% to €60,000, 35% above.

Which income do I enter?

All taxable income: salaries, business profits, rents (after the 20% deduction), pensions. Dividends and interest are excluded, they are taxed under Special Defence Contribution.

Are social insurance contributions deductible?

Yes, together with GESY, provident fund and life insurance premiums, up to one fifth of income.
